Let me introduce Kawagoe, a city known for its charming streets that preserve the atmosphere of Edo-period Japan, earning it the nickname “Little Edo.”

The first stop was Kawagoe Hachimangu Shrine ⛩️.
As the oldest shrine in Kawagoe, it is believed to bring blessings for love and success. The shrine grounds feature beautiful hanachozu (floral water basins), and it is home to deities protecting eyesight and those who listen to people’s worries. One of the most fascinating rituals here is the Yakuwari Momo 🍑✨, inspired by an ancient myth where Izanagi-no-Mikoto repelled demons using peaches. By throwing a peach-shaped ball at the Yakuwari Ishi stone, visitors can symbolically break free from bad luck. The tranquil atmosphere made for a deeply refreshing experience.
まず最初に訪れたのは川越八幡宮 ⛩️ です。 川越で最も古い神社であり、恋愛成就や成功のご利益があるとされています。境内には美しい花手水があり、眼病の神様や人々の悩みに耳を傾ける神様が祀られています。ここで最も興味深い儀式の一つは、イザナギノミコトが桃を使って悪鬼を退けたという古代の神話に由来する「厄割桃 🍑✨」です。桃の形をしたボールを厄割石に投げつけることで、象徴的に悪運を断ち切ることができます。静かで落ち着いた雰囲気は、心身ともにリフレッシュできる素晴らしい体験でした。
Next, I visited Resona Coedo Terrace.
Operated by Resona Bank, this facility repurposes cultural heritage buildings to promote local industries and Kawagoe’s unique offerings. It features coworking spaces, cafes, and specialty shops that showcase regional ingredients and crafts. The serene setting made it a perfect place to relax.
次に訪れたのは、りそな小江戸テラスです。 りそな銀行が運営するこの施設は、文化遺産である建物を再利用し、地元の産業や川越独自の魅力を発信しています。コワーキングスペース、カフェ、地域の食材や工芸品を紹介する専門店などがあります。穏やかな雰囲気は、リラックスするのに最適な場所でした。
To end the day, I took a leisurely stroll through Kawagoe Ichiban-gai shopping street and stopped by Kawagoe Art Café Elevato, a historic Western-style building registered as a cultural property. Sipping a drink in such a beautifully preserved space was truly special.
一日の締めくくりに、川越一番街商店街をゆっくりと散策し、文化財に登録されている歴史的な洋館、川越アートカフェ エレバートに立ち寄りました。美しく保存された空間で飲み物を楽しむのは、本当に特別な体験でした。
