DORAYAKI,Traditional Japanese Sweets

Food

Dorayaki is a traditional Japanese pastry consisting of sweet red bean paste (a paste made from azuki beans and sugar) sandwiched between fluffy pancake-like dough.
It looks like a sandwich with anko (red bean paste) between two round sponge cakes that fit in the palm of your hand. The taste is a perfect combination of soft and slightly sweet pancake and mildly sweet azuki beans.
Dorayaki is a very popular snack in Japan because it is easy to eat and goes well with both Japanese tea and coffee.

Particularly popular dorayaki in Tokyo are Usagiya’s dorayaki in Ueno, Kameju’s dorayaki in Asakusa, and Kuromatsu Honpo Sogetsu in Higashi Jujo, which are considered the three most popular dorayaki in Tokyo.

This time, we would like to introduce the “Kuromatsu” dorayaki from “Kuromatsu Honpo Sogetsu” among them.

Sogetsu, a long-established business with three generations of parents and children, was founded in 1930.
Its signature dorayaki, “Kuromatsu,” is made of brown sugar, azuki beans, wheat, eggs, honey, and salt, with no added coloring or preservatives, and is moist and fluffy.
Incidentally, the name “Kuromatsu” (black pine) is derived from its baking color, which resembles the bark of a pine tree.

The ingredients are all domestically produced in Japan, and there is no manual for mixing them. The craftsman’s many years of experience and intuition allow him to make exquisite changes depending on the season, weather, and humidity of the day.

Since it is a popular store, there is often a line before the store opens, and the line is very narrow, so if you have large suitcases, etc., you should ask the staff at the station or other place to hold them for you beforehand.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful, so you can rest assured that everything will be handled smoothly.
They will also make reservations for large orders.
Payment is by cash, credit card (VISA, master), and transportation (SUICA, etc.).
Please note that there is no eat-in space.
Shelf life is about 3-5 days, so we recommend eating as soon as possible.
